Both Dr. Kanalec and Janice bring a wealth of expertise, knowledge, and look forward to helping the Etobicoke community stay active!

Sports Medicine Doctor

Dr. Kanalec is available to see patients on Tuesday afternoons and appointments are covered by OHIP. Please ensure you have a valid Canadian health card with you. With a background in emergency and sports medicine, Dr. Kanalec ensures that LiveActive can continue offering rapid access to experienced sport medicine physicians. Dr. A. D. Kanalec, MD, MBA, Dip Sports Med, DOHS

Dr. Kanalec graduated from the University of Toronto in 1983 majoring in pharmacology. He then accepted a position at the University of Toronto School of Medicine receiving his MD degree in 1987. The first 7 years of his career primarily involved work as an Emergency Physician. Given his interest in the MSK system and orthopedics, Dr. Kanalec then completed subspecialty designations to become a sports medicine doctor through the Canadian Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine (CASEM). He continued in occupational medicine receiving a Diploma of Occupational Health Science (DOHS) through McMaster University. Dr. Kanalec’s interests lie in general sports medicine treatment, occupational injury treatment, exercise + diet to improve aesthetics & function,  ideal weight management in combination with exercise for the treatment of arthritis.

Certified Pedorthist

Janice Laberge is available to see patients by appointment. As an experienced pedorthist, her expertise is an invaluable addition to the team. Janice ensures her patients have healthy feet, footwear, and the necessary tools to stay active. As a certified pedorthist, Janice offers the following services at LiveActive Sports Medicine:

  • Compression Stockings

Janice Laberge, C.Ped. C, CAT (c)

Janice graduated with Honours in Kinesiology in 2003 from York University, followed by a Bachelor in Health Science in Athletic Therapy from Sheridan College.  As a student therapist, she worked with the University of Toronto Football and Basketball teams.  She has also worked with the Vancouver Provincial Soccer Team.  It was here she discovered her passion for the care and wellness of her athletes, becoming a Certified Athletic Therapist in 2010.

She furthered her studies in the field of Pedorthics as an apprentice in 2007, learning more about biomechanics and how the foot can vastly affect different areas of the body.  She became certified with the College of Pedorthics in 2009.  With over 10 years of Pedorthic experience, Janice treats all patients including amateur and professional athletes.

Janice enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her husband, 2 boys, and her dog.  Her favorite activities are tennis, swimming, and yoga.  When not doing those activities she enjoys playing her drums.
